TNC and FCSN demand for reforms in FATA

TNC and FCSN demand for reforms in FATA

Chairman Tribal NGOs Consortium and Coordinator FRs Civil Society Network (FCSN) Zar Ali Khan Afridi has welcomed merger of Kala Dhaka(Tor Ghar) into settled areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province by sitting provincial government of ANP and PPP. He said that reforms for FATA were announced by President Asif Ali Zardari about one and half year back on the occasion of 14th of August 2009 but still these reforms are to be implemented and the words of incumbent President will get practical. It was very nice statement of the President to read that the present government is resolved firmly to bring the far flung areas of the country into the main stream of national life, and government has decided on reforms in tribal areas that include political parties Act to the tribal areas and suitable amendments to the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) in accordance with the wishes of the people of tribal areas which will be implemented as soon as the security situations in tribal areas improve.
People of FATA which have a population of more than 10 million have been suffering from miseries for the last almost 63 years but since 2003 they are living in hell. Their political and social life is destroyed while the business activities are at standstill due to militancy. It was 1901 when FCR was imposed on people of FATA, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province and Balochistan. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and Balochistan got rid of this inhuman law years ago but as for as FATA is concerned, it is still burning in this fire. When PM Gillani took over as PM , in his maiden address to parliament he had announced abolition of FCR from FATA but till this day his announcement could not see his words to be practical. Pretending security situations will not help FATA people rather it will be a continued process and people of FATA will be suffering. TNC and FCSN demand of the incumbent government to make words practical and announce reforms in FATA. Such steps will reduce problems and militancy will have no place to nurture any more. We also demand of the government to at least announce few reforms at once. These are included extension of Political Parties Act, representation in Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, abolition of collective responsibility clause and turning FATA present status into PATA.
